Two Danish WtE plants have placed additional new orders for the advanced SAR 3 grate

Heavily expanding demand in Denmark for the new SAR 3 grate for existing plants

I/S Refa at Nykøbing Falster has decided to install the new SAR 3 grate on its 2nd combustion line, The grate is to be installed during April/May 2011.
I/S Nordforbrænding Hørsholm has decided to equip its 2nd and 3rd combustion line with the SAR 3 grate,  installation to be completed in March 2011.

  • The new orders are additional supplies to both plants, which have already been operating the SAR 3 grate for approx 8-12 months.

  • The two new orders bring the total number of combustion lines in Denmark partly or completely equipped with the SAR 3 grate to 7 lines and to a total of 13 lines worldwide.

  • The completely re-engineered grate carpet together with the new lateral tension system has now been successfully in operation for more than 2 years, since March 2009, on the SITA France operated Pontarlier WtE plant. In Denmark the first installation was brought into operation in May 2010 by DONG Energy, Horsens.

  • The new orders are a result of the positive experience obtained and have caused a significant market demand for the new grate, moving away from the classical old grate design.

The new SAR 3 designed by Dublix partner SARETCO provides:


  • 70-90% reduction of riddlings compared to classical grate.27

  • Much better handling of the melting metals (Al etc.) as this is forced down the grate instead of through the grate carpet.

  • Better combustion control due to an improved controlled air distribution over the complete grate carpet.

  • Heavily reduced CO levels.

  • Improved lateral tension system providing a homogeneous wear on the grate carpet during the entire operation period.

  • Maintenance labor cost for the new grate system is less than 30% compared to the cost of maintaining the classical grate due to very fast replacement of the grate carpet.
